Dance and Culture: A Lecture and Demonstration Series
Dance and Culture: A Lecture and Demonstration Series is an engaging arts education initiative designed specifically for middle school students. This dynamic program weaves together physical dance practice and cultural exploration, offering students a well-rounded experience that not only enhances their movement vocabulary but also deepens their understanding of the world around them.
Over the course of six weeks of in-person classes, students are introduced to a selection of dance genres such as Tap, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, and traditional Chinese dance. Each style is presented with attention to its cultural roots and historical context, helping students explore how dance reflects identity, tells stories, and preserves community traditions. The program culminates in a final presentation where students share their research and perform a choreographed routine inspired by what they’ve learned.
The program is led by informed teaching artists who approach each dance style with care, respect, and a commitment to honoring its origins. Program content may vary by campus to accommodate different schedules and classroom needs.
