Steffani Lopez is a native of Dallas, Texas where she began her training in ballet, jazz and tap at Motion Center for Dance. She attended Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where she was introduced to modern techniques, choreography, and repertory work. She worked with choreographers such as Joshua L Peugh, Jonathan Campbell, Adam Hougland and Brynt Bateman as well as performing pieces by Robert Battle and Dwight Rhoden. In 2013, Steffani became a founding member of the Dallas branch of the South Korean based company Dark Circles Contemporary Dance under the direction of Joshua l Peugh. She worked with choreographers such as Louis Acquisto, James Gregg, and Mike Esperanza and was able to perform at festivals such as Jacob’s Pillow, Dance Gallery New York, Dallas Dance Fest, and Austin Dance Festival during her time with them. Upon her graduation in the spring of 2015, she left the company to continue her dance training at Sam Houston State University where she currently studies under professors such as Elijah Alhadji Gibson, Dana Nicolay, Andy and Dionne Noble, and Joshua Manculich. Steffani has participated in numerous professional opportunities such as Elijah Alhadji Gibson’s The Black Card, NobleMotion Dance’s Catapult, and Joshua Manculich’s Monolouge. She has also been choreographing for the undergraduate choreography concerts since her sophomore year. She plans to continue creating work after her projected graduation in the spring of 2019.
